Although he endorsed Gary Johnson for president this past Tuesday, it looks like Willie Nelson forgot that he already supported Denis Kucinich for president should he decide to run, and thus withdrew the endorsement 48 hours later:
“I know I said that,” Nelson replied. “But I think I will wait and see where he stands on other things. My bad. Sorry. I still think he is a good guy but so is Dennis [Kucinich] and if he decided to run I would personally vote for him. If it came down to either him or Gary I’m already committed to Dennis. They both have said they support legal pot.”
But hey, isn’t it to be expected that short-term memory loss might be a problem for Nelson’s “Teapot Party” and some of those marijuana single-issue voters out there?
Here’s what a Johnson campaign spokesperson had to say about the endorsement withdrawal in a statement to NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE:
“We of course respect and appreciate whatever level of support Willie Nelson and the TeaPot Party offer. What’s important is that Gary Johnson and Willie Nelson share a strong desire to give voice to millions of Americans who are demanding sensible drug laws and policies. Gary looks forward to working with Mr. Nelson and many others to do just that.”
