NPR’s Weiss Heads to Center for Public Integrity

The New York Times reports that Ellen Weiss, the former NPR executive who fired Juan Williams, will be the next executive editor of the Center for Public Integrity:

Nine months after resigning as senior vice president for news at National Public Radio, Ellen Weiss has been named executive editor at the Center for Public Integrity, a non-profit investigative news organization in Washington.

Following her resignation, Ms. Weiss said she spent the summer exploring job opportunities in media and non-media outlets like research centers before choosing to take the position at The Center for Public Integrity.

Ms. Weiss, who worked at NPR for 29 years, left in January after dismissing Juan Williams, a senior news analyst, after Mr. Williams said on the Fox News channel that he sometimes felt uneasy when airline passengers wore Muslim attire.

I wanted my constituents to remain the public,” Ms. Weiss said in a telephone interview. “I wanted to be working somewhere that was empowering the public with high quality trusted information.”

In her new role, Ms. Weiss will oversee the Center’s domestic investigative reporting unit. During her tenure at NPR, Ms. Weiss held a variety of positions including executive producer of All Things Considered and national editor.

Bill Barr Derangement Syndrome

Can the republic survive Attorney General William Barr? That’s the question that has seized the media and center-left, which have worked themselves into a full-blown panic over an attorney general who is, inarguably, a serious legal figure and one of the adults in the room late in President Trump’s first ... RIP Bloomberg 2020

I thought that Bloomberg’s confused half-defense of stop-and-frisk was going to be his low point. Well. His torturous response on his lawsuits and NDAs was truly awful -- beyond incompetent. I wouldn’t be surprised if this were the end of Bloomberg 2020. Read More

Trouble in the Workers’ Paradise

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is precisely the sort of campaign surrogate you want, especially if you are Bernie Sanders: She is young, energetic, charismatic, popular (with the people she needs to be popular with, anyway), and, happily, currently ineligible to run for the presidency ... At the Debate, Only Losers

To be honest, I’d almost forgotten what they were like. Wednesday’s Democratic presidential primary debate was revealing: Mike Bloomberg was revealed to be unprepared, something for which a man with his resources has no possible excuse; Amy Klobuchar was revealed to be a stammering daisy, her big moment ...
