Obama and McCain have been trading riffs about not sending our trade dollars to China and Saudi Arabia. I wonder how much more consumer-price inflation we’d have if we banned Chinese imports or Saudi oil. Four times as much? Five times as much? If we really want something that looks like the Great Depression, that’s a big part of how we get there.
