A Ponzi Scheme

One of the more outrageous comments on last night’s MSNBC Obama-thon was when Keith Olbermann asked if somehow Hillary Clinton asking her supporters for money was some sort of criminal ponzi scheme:

OLBERMANN: I don’t want to use the term Ponzi scheme, but if we were not talking politics and the chance for a pay off for people who were investing or donating to the campaign were as little as it is for those people donating to Senator Clinton, we might use the word pyramid or Ponzi scheme. At what point does it become some sort of political scam to be insisting to people this can happen when the odds are the proverbial odds of passing the camel through the needle?

I don’t want to use the term hack, but if we were not talking MSNBC anchors and the chance for a cheap shot at a candidate for the presidency that the anchor clearly does not support, we might use the word hack. At what point does it become sort of a journalistic scam to be insisting to viewers that MSNBC anchors are non-biased when the odds are the proverbial odds of passing the camel through the needle?
