Re: Underreported News

Reader C.H. writes in on this post:

A few months back I was in a course taught by a retired colonel that’s designed to give science & engineering staff a better feel for what the soldier in the field has to confront. One of his comments during the counterterrorism section was, “we are today fighting a war in the Philippines that you don’t hear anything about. But we’re there.”  Sounds like he knew what he was talking about.

How underreported is the news? The AP can’t even bother to get the continent correct. Their headline is:  U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan and Africa.

Except, in the piece, every soldier they eulogize died in Afghanistan except for Sgt. Shaw, who we know gave his life in the Philippines.
