On PBS stations Monday night, talk-show host Tavis Smiley demonstrated why Republicans should never surrender their hard-earned dollars during a pledge drive. He asked Jimmy Carter whether the last president’s Israel policy was (a) incredibly damaging or (b) irreparably damaging:
Tavis Smiley: You mentioned, President Carter, George W. Bush a moment ago. You’ve made no secret about the fact that you — and not just you, a lot of other people, for that matter — but certainly you have made no secret about the fact that you think that they completely, my phrase, not yours, dropped the ball on this issue for eight years of their administration. How much damage was done, and was that damage irreparable by the Bush administration?
Jimmy Carter: I don’t think it’s irreparable because now I think Obama can make a change . . .
