Steele vs. Limbaugh

What to make of the Steele-Limbaugh fracas? Steele is now all apologies, telling the Politico: “My intent was not to go after Rush –I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh. … I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. … There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.”

Two thoughts:

1. “A little bit inarticulate”? Inarticulate? You don’t call somebody’s work “ugly” by accident. And his saying “there was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership,” is hard to swallow. What was he doing, if not attempting to diminish Rush’s role? Is Rush Limbaugh the only man in the Republican party who speaks English?

2. Why would a Republican go on the D. L. Hughley show? Ever? This is the guy who said the Republican National Convention “literally looked like Nazi Germany.” Literally? I do not think that word means what he thinks it means, or else I missed the part of the convention with the jackboots and swastika flags and everybody singing the “Horst Wessel Song.” Memo to the chairman: People who compare you to Adolf Hitler are not, in general, inclined to give you a fair shake.
