Triumph over Twisters

As a result of the third of these pieces on Greensburg, I’m getting lots of notes from people who are as far away from Kansas as I am right now (bonjour from France), but who are moved by all those Kiowa Countians and their resolve to get their little town up and running again. They just can’t seem to imagine how it could be possible. One reader from (it appears) New York asks:

They had a rodeo? I thought there was nothing left?

Whatever the weakness of their state political coverage, the Wichita Eagle has done a great job with their local reporting of the day-by-day in gritty Greensburg. As a belated example, here’s a terrific little story by an Eagle writer named Phyllis Griekspoor on the Greensburg rodeo. Makes a guy miss his cowbot hat and boots — even if he never owned any to begin with.
