Washington Times Steps Up After Post Caves

Some of you may recall how, two weeks ago, the Washington Post dropped its offer to provide free advertising space for the Pentagon’s 9/11 memorial “Freedom Walk,” thus caving to pressure from antiwar activists and several of its own reporters. But I repeat myself.
In any case, the Washington Times has stepped up and offered to provide the free advertising instead:

“We offered to help with free advertising,” Dick Amberg, general manager and vice president of the Times, told E&P. “It seems like a very reasonable thing to do in terms of public service.”
The offer, which would include publishing public service announcements relating to next month’s Freedom Walk, mirrors the support the Post had originally planned to provide before coming under fire from internal as well as external critics.

Good move on Amberg’s part. Not only the right thing to do, but also capitalizes on the Post’s misjudgment. (via Romenesko)
