Whatever Happened To…

From time to time, I set Google News Alerts for stories that I find odd and thing it might be interesting to track.  One such story from a few years back was the story of Ayham al-Samaraie, a former Iraqi minister who was arrested in Iraq for corruption, but later escaped with the help of his security detail and ended up in Chicago.

Al-Samaraie’s name came up a lot on the blog left back then as an example of “mercenaries” run amok as it was reported that the security company that helped him escape was Blackwater.  An example from Kos here.
I hadn’t thought much about him until I just noticed his name is now tied to the Rezko trial in Chicago.
An odd twist to a story that I thought was long dead…
