GOLDENS BRIDGE – A wayward moose was killed tonight after it wandered onto northbound Interstate 684, where it was struck by several vehicles.
The accident, which happened about 7:45 p.m. at Exit 6A, involved nine vehicles and left one person suffering minor injuries, state police said. One of the vehicles rolled over.
Mark Turndahl of Danbury, Conn., was driving the first car that struck the moose.
“I was driving on 684 in the right lane when all of a sudden I saw this huge head and the next thing I knew I was covered in glass,” Turndahl said. “I didn’t even have time to step on the brakes.”
Debra Deley, who was driving from New Jersey to Connecticut, also struck the moose.
“I was going about 60 miles an hour when I saw a moose in the middle of the road and I ran over it, and then I saw all the other cars crashing into each other,” Deley said.
