The Wilson Fiasco

With the reports that Richard Armitage was the “leaker” of Valerie Wilson’s identity, most in the media have now deemed this a non-story (except for the NYT editorial board, which is still getting its facts wrong and arguing that the real question hasn’t been answered).

Unless there are major developments, we probably won’t hear much about this “scandal” going forward. While I personally won’t miss Chris Matthews’ nightly Hardball episodes dedicated to furthering the latest left-wing anti-administration speculation, a few token editorials and news reports won’t undo three years of conspiracy-theory mongering.
David Broder’s op-ed in the WaPo today makes these points, and also calls for the most rabid conspiracy-mongers to apologize. It’s too much to hope for, but it’s the least they could do.
