Wilson Press Conference

The Wilsons took their personal psychodrama onto national TV today:

VALERIE PLAME WILSON: With heavy hearts, but with a renewed sense of purpose, I would much rather be continuing my career as a public servant, than be a plaintiff in a lawsuit. But I feel strongly that justice demands that those who acted so harmfully against our national security, must answer for their actions in court. […]
JOE WILSON: This remains a nation of laws, and no administration official, no matter how powerful, is above the law. I have confidence in the American system of justice, and this suit is about the pursuit of justice. To assist us in defraying the costs of this suit, the Joseph and Valerie Support Trust has been established with a website at www.wilsonsupport.org.

While we don’t know all the details of Plame’s resignation, it is widely acknowledged that her covert career was already over before Novak published her name. Is she saying there’s no capacity in which she could have continued at the CIA? If she really would much rather be continuing her career as a public servant, why did she resign?
Also, you really shouldn’t blame Joe Wilson for plugging the wilsonsupport.org website. After all, his wife’s seven-figure book deal just fell through. Her new one might only be six figures.
Video here.
UPDATE: More fun with the Wilsons from Byron, Treacher, and FishbowlDC.
