Writing that Makes the Head Explode

Wired has some of the best writing of any mass-market American magazine. And some of the worst:

And that brings us to the cheap part. The Gateway is just $1,400 — more than three times less than the Alienware and hundreds (and more hundreds) less than most other desktop replacement machines.

Ye gods, “more than three times less” is a stupid phrase. “More than … less” grates on its own, but throwing in the multiplication jacks up the annoyingness to French-cinema levels. What’s wrong with “costs less than a third”? Somebody please take away Danny Dumas’s pencil and break it.
UPDATE: This article seems to have two bylines on it: Danny Dumas and Roger Hibbert. Better break both guys’ pencils, just to be on the safe side.
