Actor Ray Liotta died at age 67 on Wednesday, his publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed to multiple media outlets.

“Ray was working on a project in the Dominican Republic called ‘Dangerous Waters’ when he passed. He passed in his sleep,” Allen told CNN. “He is survived by his daughter, Karsen and his fiancée, Jacy Nittolo.”

Liotta was known for playing gangster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 movie Goodfellas. Earlier, Liotta played Shoeless Joe Jackson in the 1989 hit Field of Dreams. In all, Liotta acted in over 70 movies from the 1980s through the present day.

Liotta was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1954 and was adopted when he was six months old by Alfred and Mary Liotta. He graduated from the University of Miami, and later landed a breakout role as Ray Sinclair in Something Wild in 1986.

Actors and critics mourned the news of Liotta’s death on Wednesday.

“I am utterly shattered to hear this terrible news about my Ray,” Lorraine Bracco, who played Liotta’s wife in Goodfellas, wrote on Twitter. “I can be anywhere in the world & people will come up & tell me their favorite movie is Goodfellas. Then they always ask what was the best part of making that movie. My response has always been the same . . . Ray Liotta.”
