On Tuesday, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles condemned the LA Dodgers for inviting an organization of “queer and trans nuns” to an upcoming pride event.

The Dodgers announced Monday that they would re-invite the group, called the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, composed of drag queens that mock and misappropriate Catholicism and its female religious members. In the past, the group has hosted a “hunky Jesus” contest at Easter, the holiest day in the Catholic calendar, with contestants giving sexual performances as Jesus in drag. Last June, the Dodgers also invited the group to their “pride night” celebration.

“The decision to honor a group that clearly mocks the Catholic faith and makes light of the sincere and holy vocations of our women religious who are an integral part of our Church is what has caused disappointment, concern, anger, and dismay from our Catholic community,” the archdiocese wrote in a statement.

The archdiocese urged Catholics to show solidarity with real nuns via phone calls, letters, and social media posts and by sending donations to various religious orders as financial support for their vocation.

“Let us show the world how much our women religious mean to us and our Church. #respectournuns #respectourreligious #respectourChurch,” the archdiocese wrote.

In its Monday statement, the Dodgers apologized to the LGBT anti-Catholic group, presumably for considering to exclude them from this year’s event, before extending them a warm welcome to the team’s 10th annual LGBTQ+ Pride Night on June 16th.

“We are pleased to share that they have agreed to receive the gratitude of our collective communities for the lifesaving work that they have done tirelessly for decades,” the baseball team said. “In the weeks ahead, we will continue to work with our LGBTQ+ partners to better educate ourselves, find ways to strengthen the ties that bind and use our platform to support all of our fans who make up the diversity of the Dodgers family.”
