Rounds found near the body of the suspected shooter in the attack on a Dallas ICE facility Wednesday morning carried anti-ICE messages,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Joe Rothrock revealed during a press conference.
The shooting, which authorities are treating as a “targeted attack,” resulted in the death of one detainee; two more are critically injured, officials said. No law enforcement agents were injured.
The suspected shooter, who opened fire from a rooftop across from the ICE office building, was identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn. Jahn is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He opened fire into an unmarked transport van driven by an ATF agent who was bringing detainees to the facility, FBI sources told Fox4.
The authorities believe they know the identity of the shooter but are not yet releasing the name to the public.
FBI Director Kash Patel posted a photo of five unspent shell casings found near the suspect’s body. One of the casings has the message “ANTI ICE” written on it in large blue letters.
“While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an idealogical motive behind this attack (see photo below). One of the unspent shell casings recovered was engraved with the phrase ‘ANTI ICE.’” Patel wrote.

Patel went on to note that the Wednesday attack is part of a growing pattern of left-wing violence. In the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk, the shooter scrawled anti-fascist messages on his shell casings.
In addition to the Kirk assassination, which was carried out by a left-wing extremist, ICE agents and facilities have come under attack in recent months.
On July 4, multiple assailants tried to lure ICE officers out of a detention center and ambush them in Alvarado. When an Alvarado police officer arrived on scene, one suspect shot the officer in the neck. Another attacker shot dozens of rounds at correctional officers. At least 16 people have since been charged in the case.
Authorities have described the Alvarado shooting as a “coordinated and targeted attack.” One person who was arrested while fleeing the scene, Bradford Morris, claimed that the attack was meant to be a peaceful protest.
“The original intent was just to show solidarity with the detainees who hopefully lift their spirits with a fun fireworks display and go home,” Morris, who identifies as a female and uses the name Meagan, said. “If the officer got shot by someone, that person was acting alone. But they want to punish all of us.”
Then, on July 7, a 27-year-old male shooter armed with tactical gear shot at Border Patrol agents as they entered a Border Patrol annex in McAllen, Texas. Two police officers and one Border Patrol employee were injured.
“The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families,” Vice President JD Vance said.
