One of the women leveling accusations of sexual misconduct against Brett Kavanaugh also hit her previous employer with a sexual harassment case, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
Through her attorney Michael Avenatti, Julie Swetnick released a sworn affidavit on Wednesday saying she knew the Supreme Court nominee in high school and that he was frequently sexually aggressive with girls when he was under the influence of alcohol. Kavanaugh and a classmate, Mark Judge, were in the habit of drugging girls and gang raping them at parties in high school, she claimed. She said she herself was raped at one such party, but did not say it was by Kavanaugh.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Swetnick sued New York Life Insurance over a sexual-harassment complaint she filed with them. The firm representing her in that case was the one owned by Debra Katz, now the attorney for Christine Blasey Ford, who will testify to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday about her accusation against Kavanaugh.
Swetnick’s sexual harassment case resulted in a financial settlement, according to the Journal.
An ex-boyfriend of Swetnick filed a restraining order against her in 2001.
“Right after I broke up with her, she was threatening my family, threatening my wife and threatening to do harm to my baby at that time,” her former boyfriend Richard Vinneccy told Politico. “I know a lot about her.”
“I have a lot of facts, evidence, that what she’s saying is not true at all,” he said. “I would rather speak to my attorney first before saying more,” Vinneccy said of Swetnick’s story about Kavanaugh.
Four people have come forward accusing the nominee of sexual assault. Ford alleged he drunkenly pinned her to a bed and tried to remove her clothing at a party when they were both minors in high school before she managed to escape. Deborah Ramirez claims he exposed himself to her at a party during their freshman year at Yale University. Another anonymous accuser also came forward late Wednesday night.
