Democrats Claim New Emails ‘Raise Questions’ About Trump Ties to Epstein. Republicans Say They’re Cherrypicked

House Democrats released emails on Wednesday which they claim “raise questions” about President Trump’s involvement with Jeffrey Epstein. Republicans, meanwhile, are accusing their colleagues across the aisle of cherrypicking three emails out of 20,000 documents turned over to the committee by Epstein’s estate to smear the president.
The three partially redacted emails released by Democrats suggest that Epstein believed Trump knew more about his crimes than Trump has publicly acknowledged, though the lack of context around the emails makes it difficult to draw any firm conclusions.
In one email, sent to author Michael Wolff in 2019, Epstein wrote, “Of course [Trump] knew about the girls as he asked Ghislaine to stop.” Trump has previously said that he parted ways with Epstein after learning that Epstein and Maxwell were poaching girls from his Mar-a-Lago spa.
In another email sent in 2011 to his partner in crime, Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein wrote that Trump had “spent hours at my house” with one of the victims, whose name was redacted. “I want you to realize that that dog that hasn’t barked is Trump,” the disgraced financier wrote, adding that the unnamed victim “spent hours at my house with him ,, he has never once been mentioned.”
“I have been thinking about that,” Maxwell wrote back.
Democrats claim the emails constitute further evidence that Trump has something to hide.
“The more Donald Trump tries to cover up the Epstein files, the more we uncover. These latest emails and correspondence raise glaring questions about what else the White House is hiding and the nature of the relationship between Epstein and the President,” said Oversight Committee ranking member Robert Garcia (D., Calif.).
The unredacted version of the email shows the victim was Virginia Giuffre, one of the most prominent Epstein accusers who was first introduced to the notorious pedophile while working at Mar-a-Lago.
Guiffre said in a 2016 deposition that she never witnessed Trump participating in any wrongdoing in connection to Epstein. Giuffre also claimed that, while she had heard Trump had visited Epstein’s house in Palm Beach, she had never seen him in the house — a statement that contradicts the contents of Epstein’s email to Maxwell claiming they had spent hours together at his home.
“The Democrats selectively leaked emails to the liberal media to create a fake narrative to smear President Trump. The ‘unnamed victim’ referenced in these emails is the late Virginia Giuffre, who repeatedly said President Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing whatsoever and ‘couldn’t have been friendlier’ to her in their limited interactions,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.
“The fact remains that President Trump kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his club decades ago for being a creep to his female employees, including Giuffre.”
Giuffre committed suicide earlier this year after spending years fighting for accountability for all involved with Epstein’s activities.
A spokesperson for the committee accused Democrats of cherry-picking documents out of a 20,000 page trove in order to attack Trump and protect Democrats. The Democratic email release did not provide context about the conversations.
“Democrats continue to carelessly cherry-pick documents to generate click-bait that is not grounded in the facts,” the spokesperson told NR.
“The Epstein Estate has produced over 20,000 pages of documents on Thursday, yet Democrats are once again intentionally withholding records that name Democrat officials. Democrats should stop politicizing this investigation and focus on delivering transparency, accountability, and justice for the survivors.”
The Oversight Committee subsequently released all 20,000 pages of documents from the Epstein estate, including the unredacted email with Guiffre’s name mentioned.
The document release comes hours before Speaker Mike Johnson is set to swear in Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva (D., Ariz.), whom Johnson has avoided seating since she was elected nearly two months ago. Grijalva is widely expected to provide the final signature necessary on a petition that will force the House to vote on legislation that would compel the Trump administration to release all investigative materials related Epstein. The White House is frustrated with the handful of Republicans who have supported the petition and could put further pressure on them to change their minds, as NR previously reported.
The Trump administration’s decision not to release the federal government’s Epstein files earlier this year brought renewed interest in Trump’s ties to Epstein. Trump has dismissed the Epstein files as a “hoax” and compared them to Democrats’ false claims of collusion between his campaign and Russia.
Epstein’s victims have called for maximum congressional transparency and support the effort by House lawmakers to compel the Trump administration to release all of the files.
The House Oversight Committee is investigating Epstein’s sex-trafficking activities and what the federal government knew about it. Documents from the Epstein estate have played a central role in the investigation thus far. One of those documents is a cryptic 2003 birthday letter Trump wrote to Epstein for the latter’s 50th.
The mysterious letter, written on an outline of a woman’s body, was part of a birthday book Maxwell put together for Epstein. Trump claims the letter is fake and is suing the Wall Street Journal for breaking the news of its existence.
Epstein died in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. His untimely death was ultimately ruled a suicide, a conclusion many have disputed because of Epstein’s powerful connections. The Trump administration affirmed the conclusion that Epstein died from suicide and dismissed the possibility Epstein had a “client list” of participants in his sex trafficking ring.
Maxwell was convicted on federal sex trafficking charges in 2021 and is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence. The Trump administration moved her to a lower-security prison after she conducted an interview with the Trump Justice Department in July. Maxwell fawned over Trump in the interview as she angles for a pardon. The Supreme Court rejected Maxwell’s request last month for her conviction to be thrown out.
House Democrats revealed Tuesday that whistleblowers came forward with documents showing Maxwell asked Trump to commute her sentence. Additionally, prison employees suggest Maxwell is receiving luxury treatment and getting special perks at her new facility.
