An explosive device was found Monday in the mailbox of a New York home owned by George Soros, the billionaire Democratic donor, authorities said.
Local police received a call around 3:45 p.m. about a suspicious package at the home in Westchester County. The device “had the components” of a bomb and was “proactively detonated” by bomb-squad technicians, police said. Soros was not home at the time.
“An employee of the residence opened the package, revealing what appeared to be an explosive device,” the Bedford Police Department said in a statement. “The employee placed the package in a wooded area and called the Bedford police.”
The case has been turned over to the FBI’s terrorism task force, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Explosives has also been notified, police said.
