Incumbent Georgia governor Brian Kemp, a Republican, holds a 32-point lead over challenger David Perdue heading into the gubernatorial primary next week, according to a Fox News poll released on Wednesday.

Among GOP primary voters surveyed, 60 percent said they would back Kemp while 28 percent would back Perdue. Kemp’s lead has widened since March, when he received 50 percent backing and Perdue received 39 percent in the same poll.

Fox’s survey on Wednesday was conducted with 1,004 GOP primary voters, with a 3-point margin of error. Georgia primary voters will go to the polls on May 24.

Polling throughout the gubernatorial primary has shown that Kemp maintained a lead over Perdue during the campaign. An Insider Advantage/Fox News Atlanta poll released on May 2 found that Kemp had the support of 54 percent of likely primary voters, compared with 38 percent for Perdue.

Former president Trump endorsed Perdue in opposition to Kemp, claiming that the incumbent “allowed massive Election Fraud to take place.” Trump has repeatedly claimed that he lost 2020 the presidential election to Joe Biden because of election fraud.

Perdue was a U.S. senator for Georgia before losing a runoff vote to Democratic challenger John Ossoff in January 2021. In announcing a run for governor, Perdue said Kemp “caved to [Stacey] Abrams and cost us two Senate seats, the Senate majority, and gave Joe Biden free rein.”

Meanwhile, former vice president Mike Pence has backed Kemp and will join the incumbent governor for a campaign rally on May 23, the day before the primary.
