Former FBI director James Comey on Wednesday defended the FBI’s use of a secret informant who talked to Trump campaign associates in 2016, saying attacks on the bureau will cause “lasting damage to our country.”
“Facts matter. The FBI’s use of Confidential Human Sources (the actual term) is tightly regulated and essential to protecting the country,” Comey wrote on Twitter. “Attacks on the FBI and lying about its work will do lasting damage to our country. How will Republicans explain this to their grandchildren?”

The fired FBI chief was not finished, though, taking a triple shot at the Trump administration, its supporters, and the media.
“Dangerous time when our country is led by those who will lie about anything, backed by those who will believe anything, based on information from media sources that will say anything. Americans must break out of that bubble and seek truth,” he wrote.

The president this week demanded an investigation into reports that the FBI had a confidential informant reach out to members of the Trump campaign back in 2016 and ask about their contacts with Russia as part of the FBI’s probe into Russian election meddling.
“Spygate,” as Trump dubbed it, was likely politically motivated by the “Criminal Deep State” and could be “one of the biggest political scandals in history,” he said.
I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes – and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!

Trump has shown increasing frustration with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into whether his campaign colluded with Russia, especially after the investigation passed the one-year mark. Vice President Pence and House speaker Paul Ryan have also said they would like to see the probe conclude soon.
