Former vice president Joe Biden is warning fellow Democrats that they had “better run scared” as the midterm elections approach.
“Pretend it’s Wednesday, November 7, 2018: the day after this year’s midterm elections,” Biden reportedly wrote in a recent email to supporters. “Now, pretend the headlines all say the Republicans held the House and the Senate….I’m not saying we’re going to lose. But I learned a long time ago that you better run scared if you want to win.”
Democrats originally expected a blue wave to help them retake Congress in 2018, but their hopes have been dampened by recent polls suggesting Republican support is catching up. A Reuters-Ipsos poll last month showed Republicans and Democrats running neck-and-neck, though Democrats have regained a part of their lead since then.
“We have to stay motivated; we better run scared,” Biden wrote. “We won’t win if we don’t.”
This week it was reported that Biden’s old boss, former president Barack Obama, has been meeting one-on-one with with several potential 2020 presidential candidates, including Biden. The former vice president and Delaware senator is expected to make his final decision on a 2020 presidential run in November.
