Larry Elder: Swing Voters Wouldn’t Vote for Trump ‘if He Walked on Water’

Republican presidential candidate Larry Elder said Friday that many swing voters would not vote for former president Donald Trump even if he “walked on water.”

“I love what he did as president and I think Republicans do as well, but they’re very concerned, and I think rightfully so, that a sufficient number of swing voters, especially suburban women, would not vote for the man if he walked on water,” Elder told Fox News’ Trey Gowdy. “In fact, if he did Trey, they’d say he cannot swim.”

Elder, a conservative radio host who was once a strong supporter of Trump, said he has lost friends because of his support for the former president.

“If you’ve lost friends because of Donald Trump — and I’ve lost three friends I’ve known for almost 40 years, two of whom I practiced law with — if you no longer can talk to coworkers at work because of Donald Trump, if you have strained relations with your family members because of Donald Trump, I submit to you, Trey: Houston we’ve got a problem,” he said.

Elder went on to say that he likes Trump’s policies, though the former president didn’t “invent” the idea of tax cuts of building a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“He has been very very successful in implementing Republican policies, and I’m from the Republican wing of the Republican Party, and if you fear that we may get another reenact between Trump and [President] Biden and fear that Biden may beat him again, you need a vehicle to push those policies, and I’m that vehicle,” he said.

Elder received the most voters out of 46 people who were vying to replace California governor Gavin Newsom in a recall effort. Voters ultimately decided to keep Newsom in office, however.

Elder, who is currently polling around 0.6 percent, called on viewers to donate to his campaign so he can qualify for the Republican primary debates this summer.

“Once I do, it’s game on, hold my beer,” he said.
