Mika Brzezinski: If Ford Won’t Testify, No Choice but to Call Kavanaugh Vote

Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski Wednesday weighed in on whether the woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault should have to testify before Congress.

California psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford alleged in a letter forwarded to Senator Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in the early 1980s, when they were both in high school. Kavanaugh has categorically denied the accusation.

After Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley invited Ford to testify before the committee about her claim next Monday, her attorney said Tuesday evening that she prefers to have the FBI investigate the matter before she testifies. The FBI, however, has said it does not intend to investigate the allegation because it does not involve any potential federal crime.

“There’s a gazillion reasons why Dr. Ford must be not wanting to move forward with this at all, and I totally understand every single one,” Brzezinski said to cohost Joe Scarborough Wednesday. “Nobody wants to be on the wrong side of this so everyone said, ‘Let her speak. Let her testify.'”

Now, however, some could argue that Ford’s refusal to testify absent an FBI investigation is “moving the goal post in an impossible direction,” Brzezinski continued. “So we need to hear from her. And that’s why everybody is open to hearing from a woman, but if she doesn’t want to speak, if she doesn’t want to testify, you have to wonder what the Republicans really are supposed to do except demand a vote.”
