N.C. State radio sports broadcaster Gary Hahn was suspended indefinitely Friday following comments he made referencing “illegal aliens” during the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Relaying the score of another bowl game to the audience, Hahn said, “Down among all the illegal aliens in El Paso, it’s UCLA 14 and Pittsburgh 6.”

Hahn’s comments come as the Supreme Court recently decided to temporarily block the Biden administration from winding down the Trump-era Title 42 policy that was originally instituted to enforce border security during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In mid-December, as Title 42 was set to expire, Democratic El Paso mayor Oscar Leeser declared a state of emergency in an effort to 0btain crucial state and federal assistance.

The Sun Bowl’s annual fan fest was canceled this week because El Paso’s convention center was repurposed to house migrants awaiting immigration hearings.

Hahn has been the radio broadcaster of N.C. State’s football and men’s basketball teams since 1991 and was named North Carolina’s “Sportscasters of the Year” in 2011 and 2020.
