House minority leader Nancy Pelosi expressed confidence about the upcoming midterm elections on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday night, stating categorically that Democrats will win the House.
“Up until today, I would have said if the elections were held today we would win,” she told host Stephen Colbert. “Now I’m saying we will win.”
“Please don’t say that. Do you want to say that on Hillary’s fireworks barge that she canceled?” Colbert quipped.
“We will win. We own the ground. We’re not yielding one grain of sand,” Pelosi responded. “If everyone votes we’ll have even a bigger victory. Democrats will carry the House. If we have a bigger victory, the Senate, governorships. . . . It’s going to be a great night for America.”
“I feel like I should sacrifice a goat or something to take the hex off of what you just said,” Colbert said.
With under a week to go until Election Day, Democrats are projected to win the 23 seats they need to gain a majority in the House but face an uphill battle to flip the two seats they need to control the Senate.
