Behar: Kavanaugh Might Be ‘Quieter Version of Judge Jeanine’

Joy Behar attacked President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Tuesday morning on ABC’s The View, insinuating that Judge Brett Kavanaugh is no better qualified to serve on the High Court than Judge Jeanine Pirro, a Fox News personality.

Co-host Meghan McCain suggested that Kavanaugh, who serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, was a respectable nominee relative to other prospects such as Pirro, who was briefly rumored to have a shot at the nomination.

“It is not Judge Jeanine Pirro,” McCain said. “Which I, at one point in time, thought was actually a possibility.”

“He might just be a quieter version of Judge Jeanine,” Behar rebutted before embarking on an angry rant about the perceived injustice of a president nominating a Supreme Court justice while under investigation by a special counsel.

“Why would a president who’s under investigation by the FBI for obstruction of justice and collusion be allowed to pick a Supreme Court justice who will be there?” Behar said to raucous applause. “I’ll be dead. There are many people in this room who will still be alive and need abortions…and need health care. How dare he be allowed to do this when he is under investigation!”

Kavanaugh was officially nominated Monday night and Democratic leaders have already vowed to oppose his confirmation, though they face an uphill battle due to a Senate rule change lowering the confirmation threshold from 60 votes to a simple majority.

“I will oppose Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination with everything I have, and I hope a bipartisan majority will do the same. The stakes are simply too high for anything less,” Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has vowed to confirm Trump’s pick prior to the midterm elections in November.

“I look forward to meeting with Judge Kavanaugh and to the Senate’s fair consideration of his nomination, beginning with the work of Chairman Grassley and the Judiciary Committee. This is an opportunity for Senators to put partisanship aside and consider his legal qualifications with the fairness, respect, and seriousness that a Supreme Court nomination ought to command,” McConnell said in a statement Monday.
