Former president Donald Trump called on Monday night for the “completely unreacted affidavit” supporting the FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago residence, calling it a “horrible and shocking break-in.”
“There is no way to justify the unannounced RAID of Mar-a-Lago,” he wrote in a rant on Truth Social. “The home of the 45th President of the United States (who got more votes, by far, than any sitting President in the history of our Country!), by a very large number of gun toting FBI Agents and the Department of “Justice.”
“But, in the interest of TRANSPARENCY, I call for the immediate release of the completely Unredacted Affidavit pertaining to this horrible and shocking BREAK-IN,” he added. “Also, the Judge on this case should recuse!”
Trump’s request comes after the Department of Justice said on Monday it would refuse to publicly disclose the FBI affidavit that was used to obtain a warrant for the raid.
The DOJ said the public release would interfere with the ongoing criminal investigation into Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents, and that the affidavit that will be released will have heavy redactions.
“As the Court is aware from its review of the affidavit, it contains, among other critically important and detailed investigative facts: highly sensitive information about witnesses, including witnesses interviewed by the government; specific investigative techniques; and information required by law to be kept under seal pursuant to Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 6(e),” the court filing read, according to Politico.
A federal judge unsealed the search warrant of the raid on Friday, showing that the FBI recovered eleven sets of classified documents, including some top-secret documents, roughly 20 boxes of items, binders of photos, a handwritten note, the executive grant of clemency for Roger Stone, and information about French president Emanuel Macron.
