Trump Planning ‘Major Rally’ for Ted Cruz

President Trump is planning a “major rally” this fall for his 2016 primary opponent Ted Cruz, he wrote on Twitter Friday.

“I will be doing a major rally for Senator Ted Cruz in October,” Trump wrote. “I’m picking the biggest stadium in Texas we can find.”

The incumbent senator has Trump’s “complete and total endorsement” in his reelection campaign, the president said, before adding that his opponent would be a “disaster for Texas – weak on Second Amendment, Crime, Borders, Military, and Vets!”

Cruz is facing an unexpectedly difficult and expensive challenge from Texas representative Beto O’Rourke. Cruz’s seat has not been won by a Democrat since 1988.

O’Rourke quickly gained visibility and leapt in the polls over the past month. A recent NBC News/Marist poll has Cruz up just four points in the race. But on Friday, the Houston Chronicle resurrected little-known details of O’Rourke’s 1998 drunk-driving arrest that could damage his campaign. According to police reports, O’Rourke crashed and tried to flee the scene of the incident but was stopped by a witness.

The Congressman has called his arrest a “serious mistake for which there is no excuse.”
