A conservative watchdog group has reported that local United Way chapters donated millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood in 2016.

The new report by 2nd Vote details $2.8 million in donations to the abortion giant by local chapters of United Way. United Way responded to the report with a statement saying that “only a small number (less than three percent) [of local affiliates] provide direct support to Planned Parenthood.”

“United Way Worldwide does not control funding decisions [made] by local United Ways,” the organization added, emphasizing that the local “pregnancy related programs” focus on issues such as communicable-disease prevention, family planning, health education, and counseling.

2nd Vote estimated that United Way chapters upped their donations to Planned Parenthood by nearly $166,000 from 2015 to 2016, despite the fact that the number of local affiliates that donated dropped from 68 to 61.

Four out of the five top states whose chapters contributed the most money — Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida — happen to be battleground states. Virginia chapters topped the list, donating $376,883.
