AAUP Notable Calls NYPD ‘Dumb’

John Wilson, an editor of the blog Academe, run by the American Association of University Professors, has joined the chorus of ostriches screeching about the New York Police Department’s surveillance of Muslim Student Association members.

What bothers Wilson most, notes Malcolm Kline, is that “police resources are being wasted on monitoring the websites of Muslim student groups.” Going on to impugn the NYPD’s smarts, Wilson cavils:

If the people responsible for our security are actually dumb enough to think that they can find out about future terrorist attacks on the website of the Yale Muslim Students Association, what faith can we possibly have in their intelligence to stop actual terrorism?

What’s really dumb, however, is the stubborn refusal of Wilson’s ilk to consider that the MSA, along with other prominent Muslim organizations, were named as co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation case in which the FBI exposed a terrorist front.

And it is discerning, not dumb, to face up to the obvious fact that the Internet is used by jihadis to spread their poison.

Further, it is not dumb but “prudent,” as Michael Walsh wrote in a well-titled op-ed, “Looking for Jihad in All the Right Places,” to take into account that “Islamic religiosity characterized the 9/11 hijackers, [the murderous] Maj. Hasan and others and is used as a motivational tool by jihadis.”

So out of touch with reality are members of the clerisy like Wilson that there’s little hope they’ll ever wise up.

Fire Brenda Snipes

The Lonely Mob

Just before the election, an Andrew Gillum intern named Shelby Shoup was arrested and charged with battery after assaulting some college Republicans on the campus of Florida State University. It was rather less exciting than that sounds: She went on a rant about “Nazis” and “fascism” — Gillum’s ... Read More

How Immigration Changes Britain

Almost nothing is discussed as badly in America or Europe as the subject of immigration. And one reason is that it remains almost impossible to have any sensible or rational public discussion of its consequences. Or rather it is eminently possible to have a discussion about the upsides (“diversity,” talent, ... Read More

The Georgia Smear

Back in 2016, when Trump refused to say he’d necessarily accept the result if he lost, we were told that this was a terrible violation of democratic norms. Now, refusing to accept that you lost an election is the highest form of patriotism. Not only are the media and the Left not pressuring Stacey Abrams to ... Read More
