Abigail Thernstrom on Racial Preferences

Abigail Thernstrom makes a powerful argument here in favor of abandoning racial preferences in college admissions. We will still have plenty of “diversity” without trying to engineering the student bodies of our top colleges and universities so as to include just the right percentages of students with this or that ancestry.

One of the most annoying things about higher-education leaders is the way they act as if the sun rises because of their crowing. With regard to “diversity,” they seem to think that if it weren’t for their “racially sensitive” admissions policies, few students would ever know anything about people who are “different” and America would be far less tolerant and accepting. Thernstrom points out that that simply isn’t true.
