‘Abortion No. 1 Killer of Black Americans’ Deemed Hate Speech

An Ohio State University Moritz College of Law student recently penned a column that highlighted stats showing “the number one killer of black Americans is abortion.” That was the beginning of a long and bizarre roller coaster for the student, 23-year-old Madison Gesiotto, who was a 2014 contestant in the Miss USA pageant representing Ohio.

First, a peer posted a veiled threat against Gesiotto on social media for her “offensive and racist article.” When Gesiotto made an appointment with her law school dean to discuss the threat, she was then lectured about her insensitive column by three administrators

“One dean claimed that it looked like a direct attack on the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement, which was not referenced or referred to at all in my column,” Gesiotto told The College Fix. “They kept saying that it was flawed writing that would offend many and was nowhere near a well-developed legal piece. They said they wanted me to understand why it was so offensive.”

That’s not all this talented and brilliant young lady had to endure. The Black Law Students Association’s letter to the editor to The Lantern, OSU’s student newspaper, accused Gesiotto of racism: “We take offense to the racist undertones of this opinion piece and question its journalistic integrity.”

Thankfully, Gesiotto is no wilting wallflower. She pledges to keep speaking out on issues important to her.

“Name calling and bullying have become central tactics in the growing campaign on the left to silence speech on college campuses across this country. Instead of arguing on merits, those whose beliefs are in line with the ‘settled’ liberal worldview attempt to delegitimize conservatives by branding them as racists, bigots and misogynists,” she told The Fix. “These liberals claim to be proponents of diversity but expose themselves as hypocrites by continually opposing diversity of thought and opinion.”
