Preferences for Asians

Yet another intriguing aspect of Ben Foster’s article, “Affirmative Action Hiring at the University of Louisville: A Case Study,” at the NAS website is that Asians can be recipients of preferences in hiring. They may be hugely overrepresented in some departments, but if their numbers fall short in other departments, according to the “whole person rule,” those departments will be put on notice. So Asians can benefit doubly, from their own considerable abilities, and from preferences as well.
