The Alexander Hamilton Center

In this week’s Clarion Call the Pope Center has given Hamilton College history professor Robert Paquette, who is also the designated director for the new Alexander Hamilton Center the opportunity to explain what has been going on.

In my view, the opposition to the Center by some faculty members smacks of bad faith; they claim that the traditionalist orientation of the Center isn’t what bothers them, but it appears that that’s exactly the problem. Colleges are supposed to be “diverse” and “inclusive,” but that doesn’t extend to studying western civilization in a way that isn’t wholly derogatory.
