In the last few days, both George and Carol have mentioned Carl Cohen’s open letter to the president of the University of Michigan. I’d just like to pipe up here and say that Cohen is an outstandingly good professor — I took a class from him about 15 years ago, a seminar called “Communism, Fascism, and Democracy.” He was perhaps the most enthusiastic professor I encountered in Ann Arbor; he loved thinking about ideas, arguing about them, and teaching them to his students. He’s a role model for his colleagues.
