Antioch College’s future is much in doubt and now we learn that the same is true about New College in California, a school founded in 1971 and “committed to education in support of a just, sacred, and sustainable world.” Inside Higher Ed has the story.
Colleges, even nonprofit ones, need to pass the test of the market and it appears that schools whose entire mission is geared to promoting some ideology are apt to fail that test today. Of course, individual departments within universities can and do get away with that.
