Anti-Snooki Legislation

After MTV star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi was paid $32,000 to “dish on her GTL — gym, tanning, laundry — lifestyle” at Rutgers University, one New Jersey lawmaker has decided a new law requiring student consent for such expenditures is needed:

State Sen. Joe Kyrillos says students attending public colleges shouldn’t be required to fund entertainment they find objectionable through mandatory activity fees. Snooki last week was paid $2,000 more than the $30,000 the university is paying Nobel-winning novelist Toni Morrison to deliver the commencement address. The Republican lawmaker said he plans to sponsor legislation allowing students to opt into campus events requiring a fee.

To be sure, Rutgers wasted students’ money on the Snooki lecture, but I would encourage Senator Kyrillos and other concerned citizens not to be too hard on the young lady. She may be best known for getting drunk on television, but that does not mean she has nothing important to say.

For instance, Snooki once spoke out publicly against Obama’s rapacious “tanning tax,” which requires tanning salons to impose a 10% tax on UV-ray sessions. No really, she did. Enjoy:

“I don’t go tanning anymore because Obama put a 10% tax on tanning. McCain would never put a 10% tax on tanning. Because he’s pale and would probably want to be tan.”
