A student at Paradise Valley Community College near Phoenix, Brittany Mirelez, wanted to establish a Young Americans for Liberty chapter at the school. But as happens all too often, she ran into trouble with school officials. She had set up a table in the school’s free speech zone, but had not obtained prior approval 48 hours in advance. Moreover, PVCC has a severe policy that restricts free speech to the zone. I suppose students are allowed to talk about non-controversial things outside the zone, but advocating anything like freedom and limited government — well, the school doesn’t want that sort of expression. Someone might get offended or “triggered.”
Happily, this came to the attention of Alliance Defending Freedom and ADF has filed suit in federal district court against the school’s unconstitutional restrictions on free speech. Read about it here.
