Many students and faculty members are opposing Boston College’s decision to give Secretary of State Rice this year’s commencement address and an honorary degree. This is the latest in a long line of such protests against honoring Republican/conservative-leaning dignitaries on campuses–and indeed they are rarely invited to receive these honors in the first place.
In response to the intellectual-diversity movement, the dominant Left on campuses has taken to claiming there is “no evidence” of discrimination against dissenters in our colleges. I would like to see a systematic, multi-year, nationwide survey of the political leanings of those chosen to give commencement addresses and receive honorary doctorates.
This would help to pull the rug out from under the “no evidence” crowd.
