Boycotting Reason

The British Left has been aching to call an academic boycott against one of its favorite whipping boys, Israel. The latest attempt, by members of the British University and College Union, prompts the National Association of Scholar’s new executive director Peter Wood to reflect on the propriety of boycotts, wherever directed, in a domain supposed to be governed by reason.

Stephen H. Balch was the founding president of the National Association of Scholars. In 2007 he received the National Humanities Medal from President George W. Bush.
