Cheating Fair and Square

Yesterday I noted a professor-generated cheating frenzy by freshmen at Columbia U.
Now the New York Post reports some of these students are testily petitioning the university accept their grades from an exam on which hundreds of them cheated. These freshmen are irate that the campus has asked them to either retake the test or accept a final grade from coursework they had completed throughout the year.
They seem to feel “entitled” to ill-begotten marks they did not earn on their own – ready to pin full blame for the cheating scandal on the professor who leaked the exam and to wash their hands of their role in it.
Maybe someone should impress upon these freshmen that cheating is a kind of theft and that they dishonor themselves and their campus by demanding unmerited rewards.
