Chertoff calls on colleges to keep tabs on foreign students

Some of the nation’s campuses are averse to aid the government in keeping tabs on the activities of foreign students, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says. Appearing before a House committee, he discussed in general how the government needs the cooperation of colleges and universities to know when foreign students aren’t attending programs or classes in which they are enrolled. Chertoff said some higher education institutions “don’t want to see themselves as enforcement tools for the government.” (The Tampa Tribune)

Higher educators will have to do their part in stopping terrorists from killing us. Our security trumps their pristine “self-perception.”
