Claiming a Fake Degree Can Get You in Trouble

That’s what we learn from this Chicago Tribune story.

But there is a bigger lesson, namely that it’s a foolish policy to grant automatic pay increases simply because an employee has added a degree. That merely encourages the pursuit of credentials for their own sake, as well as fraud. Pay increases ought to be tied to better performance at your job, and getting another degree is neither a necessary nor a sufficient condition for that.
