A Comment on Dartmouth

My good friend Jack Sommer, a Dartmouth alum, former professor at UNC-Charlotte and other schools, and keen observer of higher education, wrote this to fellow Dartmouth alums regarding the ouster of Todd Zywicki:

For those of you who read the Wall Street Journal you have seen Zywicki’s incisive OpEd pieces over the years and know that the Board has shut itself off from the kind of probing that a law and economics professor can deliver. Not one to have a dewey-eyed reverence for Ivy League authority, Zywicki singed Dartmouth’s Upper Crust too much.
The political economy of colleges and universities is not well known to most board members who are not a part of academia. It is regretable that we lose a trustee with knowledge of the pathologies of higher education.
