Degrees Versus Savoir Faire

In this week’s Pope Center Clarion Call, I write about the coming revolution in academic credentialing. Reliance upon the traditional degree is going to fade as people turn increasingly to better indicators of their knowledge and abilities — their savoir faire (“know how to do”) as Cato’s Andrew Coulson puts it. Badges, certifications and e-portfolios will (perhaps rapidly) become the new means by which people try to catch the eye of employers.
