The Diversity Mania in Overdrive

Roger Clegg has a sharp essay on Minding the Campus regarding Elmhurst College’s new preference for LGBT students.

It seems that many college administrators now devote their time mainly to trying to out-do other schools in showing how committed they are to “diversity.” Evidently it makes them feel good (“I’m helping to advance Social Justice!”) but deflects schools from what ought to be their main focus, namely education.

Elmhurst officials are certainly within their rights to run the college this way. Elmhurst trustees and alums, however, would also be within their rights to push back against them.
