Doubts about supporting state university administrators in the style to which they have become accustomed are seeping in – and in unlikely quarters.
Here, Montana’s Democratic governor Brian Schweitzer calls recent salary hikes for top university system administrators “raises to big shots.” And, regarding over-compensation, he makes a point that needs to be raised throughout all public higher education: “I simply don’t buy that we . . . pay [people] three quarters of a million dollars more and suddenly, ‘Eureka!,’ Montana becomes a world class university center.”
