Everything You Know about Good Study Habits Is Wrong

The New York Times has a fascinating article that promises to upend your assumptions about good study habits, memory, and learning.

It is best to find a quiet, consistent location for all your studying, right? Wrong. It’s better to mix up locations. One bit of research showed that students who varied their study location had far better information retention than those who always studied in the same room. Apparently, studying in varied visual environments produces a higher number of neural associations between your visual environment and what you are reading. Better retention is the result.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll unplug my computer and move to another room.
